ABOUT THE SERIES

La francophonie en action is a revolutionary, 4-volume textbook series utilizing the action-oriented approach (AOA) to learning French as a second or foreign language. The four core volumes are an immersive, complete system for guiding students from the basics to an advanced level of language acquisition.

With a strong emphasis on the francophone world, including a much-needed focus on francophone and Indigenous Canada, this series covers multiple stages of French language acquisition: beginner, elementary, intermediate, and upper-intermediate, and is a comprehensive solution for all departments offering a French Studies program at Canadian, American, or international universities.

About the action-oriented approach (AOA)

Under the action-oriented approach framework, each exercise that students are tasked with encourages students to be active participants or “social agents” in their language acquisition journey.  Exercises require students to explore the francophonie world in real life and apply their growing language skills in hands-on applicable ways that feel creative, fun, and fully immersive.

Benefits of the action-oriented approach:

Immersive

Learn through active participation in language acquisition, acting in real-life, authentic, meaningful learning situations beyond a classroom.

Practical

Learn language and grammar actually used in contemporary settings through engagement with current media, real-world texts, and in-person experiences.

Empowering

Students exercise critical thinking and problem-solving skills in real-time, and often must work collaboratively with each other and those they are engaging with in the community to solve scenarios.
